our church

Cornerstone is a Presbyterian congregation, even though its’ planting was a cooperative work of both the Presbyterian and Christian reformed churches in Hobart.  The name Cornerstone was chosen for the congregation when we were planted by Crossroads Presbyterian Church and the Christian Reformed church back in 2001, because a ‘cornerstone’ is the stone from which the whole building takes shape.  Jesus Christ is God’s cornerstone to build his temple in the world out of people like us.  Coming to Jesus, we are joined to one another, as ‘living stones’ in God’s temple (1 Peter 2:4-10).

The Gospel of Jesus and His death and resurrection calls us to turn from idols to serve the living and the true God, to worship him with our lips and our lives (Thessalonians 1:9-10)

Because we at Cornerstone want to grow to be more like Jesus, we want to understand what the Bible says about him. When we meet, we want to hear from the Bible, in a way that is clear and honest.

We enjoy being together, studying the Bible together, singing and praying together, without being tied down to some of the more unhelpful traditions of the past.  We want our church meetings to be glorifying to God and easy for people to understand and to be a part of, even if you have never been to a church before, or if you haven’t been in the habit of going to church for a while.
